Hohokam Stadium has been the spring training home for the Chicago Cubs since 1952. It is located right outside downtown Mesa, Ariz. The same people who designed Baltimore's Camden Yards, Cleveland's Jacobs Field, and Colorado's Coors Field designed Hohokam stadium.

The Cubs completed their minor league deal with catcher Jason Jaramillo, MLBTR's Tim Dierkes has learned. MLBTR reported in December that the Cubs were nearing a deal with the 29-year-old. Jaramillo has accumulated 366 big league plate appearances over the last three seasons with the Pirates, hitting .235/.293/.327. A former second-round pick of the Phillies, Jaramillo missed much of this season with an elbow injury. The switch-hitter will be a candidate for the Cubs' backup catcher job behind Geovany Soto, a role filled by Koyie Hill the last several years. Jaramillo is a native of Wisconsin. The Red Sox requested in late December that MLB commissioner Bud Selig resolve the Theo Epstein compensation issue, reports Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times. The Cubs were granted permission to speak to Epstein by the Red Sox and hired him as president of baseball operations in October. Since then, the two teams have been unable to determine what compensation the Red Sox should receive for Epstein, since he had a year remaining on his contract. Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes has yet to become an official free agent, but plenty of teams have come to see him and tell him how much they'd love to have him play for them. ESPN Chicago reports that Cespedes is saying that the Chicago Cubs have paid the most attention to him so far . "Of all the teams that have approached us, the one that has had the most interest in me has been the Chicago Cubs," Céspedes said, the site notes. "I have had dinner a couple of times [with Cubs officials] and we have talked a lot, but that doesn't mean that I am going to sign with them. I am only telling it like it is, they have shown more interest than others." At least 10 teams, including Chicago, have watched the 26-year-old outfielder play this offseason in the Dominican Republic either in games or private practices, the site notes. The Chicago Cubs have avoided arbitration with Geovany Soto after they reached an agreement that will pay him $4.3 million. The Cubs also reached one-year deals with Jeff Baker, Blake DeWitt, Ian Stewart, Chris Volstad and Randy Wells.
