An interesting draft already for the Cubs and their future took shape yesterday at the start of the MLB 2012 draft. In a surprise move that impacted the Cubs, the Houston Astros selected OF Carlos Correa with the first pick of the draft. The Cubs had clearly targeted Correa as their pick, as evidenced by have the young phenom from Puerto Rico taking batting pratice from Cubs manger Dale Sveum last weekend at Wrigley Field, With Correa off the board, the Cubs then selected OF Albert Almora with their number six pick overall. Almora has all the tools to be a starting centerfielder, according to MLB's Cash Kruth. As the first pick in the new Theo Epstein era, Correa has pressure placed on him to perform but from all reports he has the makeup, both physically and mentally, to handle this honor and be a productive player for the Cubs.
Jason McLeod, Vice President of Scouting and Player Development for the Cubs, believes Almora will be an impact player.
